Feeling stuck in a decor rut? Wondering how to breathe new life into your home without breaking the bank?

Kitchen Lighting

You want your home to be a place you enjoy living in. This means keeping up with making improvements to your property over time.

A good first step is to gather some ideas for how you can enhance your home. Then you can come up with a priority list and budget for each project. Here you can learn about five ways to improve and update your home so it’s a better place to live.

1. Keep it Clean & Clutter-Free

Have you noticed a common thread from designers, decor bloggers and articles, “Keep it Clutter Free and Clean”. It’s the fresh start all rooms and homes need.
It’s important to get on a regular cleaning schedule at home. This way you can ensure your property stays neat and tidy over the years. You may also want to perform a deep clean with the change of seasons. Keeping a clean home will help boost your mood so you don’t have to stare at messes each day. This is the hardest part according to many of my readers…now is also a good opportunity to go through your belongings and declutter. Get rid of or donate the items you no longer need or use. This will make room for you to display the stuff you love.

2. Boost The Curb Appeal

You should also pay attention to the outside of your property. This is a mirror into what your visitors will experience when they enter your home.  The outside and your entryway are the first impression for your guests.
Considering the exterior of your home is crucial. Boosting your curb appeal not only enhances the overall appearance of your property but also creates a welcoming atmosphere for guests and possibly in the future potential buyers.

To help with this, if your budget allows for it, here are several additional  ideas that you could look into, such as:

Premium Exterior Remodeling services and tackle some larger projects such as putting new siding on your home.
Also consider installing a new driveway if yours is old and cracked or installing new garage doors.  These are some exterior projects that will add value to your home.

There are also smaller upgrades you can make such as putting in a new mailbox and decorating your front porch. You may also want to paint your front door a new color that pops.

Updating The Kitchen And Bathroom

Some of the most important rooms in our home are the kitchen and bathrooms. You likely spend a lot of time in these areas of your home. Consider painting the kitchen cabinets a new color and installing a colorful backsplash behind the sink area. If your budget allows consider investing in new energy-efficient appliances as well. You may want to add pendant lighting above the island. As for the bathrooms in your home, make sure you have plenty of storage solutions where you can keep your belongings out of the way. You may also want to install new light fixtures and replace or paint an old vanity. Now is also a good time to look into installing a bigger and better shower in the master bathroom.

Enhance The Lighting

A dark and dreary home can negatively impact your mood and the overall ambiance of your property. Therefore, find ways to enhance the lighting throughout your spaces. Try to draw in as much natural light as possible during the daytime hours. You may also want to consider installing a skylight in a second-floor bathroom as a way to add more natural light. I have said in previous posts how much I loved them and they really are mood boosters. Go around your home and replace old light covers and fixtures with more modern options. You should also make sure that you layer your lighting and consider putting some lights on dimmer switches. Place out plenty of lamps and candles that you can use when the evening hours set in. Enhancing the lighting will boost your mood and make your home feel cozier overall.

Painting the Walls and Trim

Another project and way to improve and update your home is to apply fresh paint to the walls and trim. This will be especially impactful if you currently have wood trim throughout your home. You can modernize it by painting the wood trim white. Painting is a project that you can do yourself if you’re feeling motivated and have the time. Be sure to bring home paint samples so you can see what different hues look like in all kinds of lighting. You can use paint to brighten up your home and make small spaces appear larger. Keep in mind that you can always choose bold colors for areas such as a small bathroom or the dining room. You may also want to paint an accent wall in a room such as the bedroom or living area.
