I am like a child with a new toy….. I want everyone to see it. Are you a tad bit like this….then we have a lot in common. We should be proud of our efforts and be willing to share our accomplishments with others so that they too can have beauty, organization and no stress… From learning drain unclogging DIY tips to knowing how to keep a kitchen clutter-free, it’s all so important, and perhaps most important of all is organization.
Amidst all these endeavors, one thing remains paramount: organization. It’s the backbone of a stress-free home environment. As I continue on this journey of creating beauty and functionality within my home, I’m excited to share my experiences and discoveries with others, knowing that together, we can inspire and uplift one another.
When I was planning the Kitchen Remodel I knew it was going to require looking at all space being used and how could I get maximum utilization of all drawers, counters and even wall space. This was the Challenge that was before me, I really had fun doing it and it was relative simple and cost effective.
When I began to organize the spice drawer it made me accountable for what I actually use and helped with the purging.
There are so many different ideas and tools to choose from, this is the one I chose and I don’t regret it.
It seems no matter what we do it somehow involves Purging and more PURGING.
If I could only keep up with it…. it would make life so much easier.
Is there such a thing as being really Organized? I don’t think that is even remotely possible.
Sharing My Organizing Item
Once I got started I have to admit it was fun and so rewarding after it was all done.
It is so much easier to know exactly where the spice is and putting it in Alphabetical Order is the best way to find what you are looking for “at a Glance”.
Common Question Asked By Readers
How Long Can I Keep Spices?
I honestly did not know the answer to that no one has ever asked me that before. So as many of us do I search the Internet to find an easy guide to spices and storage. I hope this helps you as well.
Dried herbs typically last 1–3 years. Examples include:
Ground, or powdered, spices typically have a shelf life of 2–3 years. Common examples include:
- basil
- oregano
- thyme
- rosemary
- bay leaves
- dill
- parsley
- cilantro
- mint
- marjoram
- sage
- powdered ginger
- garlic powder
- ground cinnamon
- chili powder
- ground turmeric
- ground allspice
- ground cardamom
- ground paprika
- crushed red pepper flakes
- seasoning blends
Whole, or unground, spices have the longest shelf life, as less of their surface area is exposed to air, light, and moisture. This allows them to retain their aromatic oils and flavor compounds longer than their ground counterparts.
If stored properly, whole spices can last up to 4 years. Examples include:
- whole peppercorns
- coriander
- mustard seeds
- fennel seeds
- caraway seeds
- cumin seeds
- whole nutmeg
- cloves
- cinnamon sticks
- whole dried chili peppers
- lemongrass
Salt is the exception to the rule, as it can be used indefinitely regardless of its size and shape without spoiling or losing flavor. That said, if you’re using a seasoned salt, any accessory seasonings may lose their potency over time.

Another item that always was in my messy spice drawer was assorted Knives. I know, yes it was dangerous and very reckless on my part. After this job was done, I really saw what a “procrastinator” I was. It was not “very pretty”.
So what am I going to show you? After you see how easy, inexpensive and very professional your kitchen, counters etc. look….you will be doing the same thing.
All Seasons Pantry and Kitchen Organization
Evaluate pantry and kitchen needs:
At the start of each season, assess your pantry and kitchen to identify any areas that need attention. Consider factors such as changing cooking habits, upcoming holidays, and seasonal ingredients.
Declutter and Organize: Take the opportunity to declutter your pantry and kitchen cabinets, removing any expired or unused items. Organize your pantry shelves and kitchen cabinets by grouping similar items together, such as baking supplies, canned goods, spices, and snacks.
Maximize Space: Utilize space-saving solutions to make the most of your pantry and kitchen storage. Install adjustable shelving, stackable bins, and drawer organizers to optimize space and keep items easily accessible.
Label and Date Items: Use labels and markers to clearly identify items in your pantry and kitchen cabinets. Label shelves, bins, and containers with the contents and date of purchase or expiration to help you keep track of inventory and prevent food waste.
Rotate Season Items: As the seasons change, rotate seasonal items in your pantry and kitchen cabinets to reflect your current cooking needs. Store seasonal ingredients and specialty items at eye level for easy access during meal preparation.
Create Zones: Organize your pantry and kitchen cabinets into zones based on functionality and frequency of use. Designate separate zones for cooking essentials, baking supplies, snacks, and meal prep tools to streamline your cooking process.
Regular Maintenance: Make kitchen and pantry organization a regular habit by scheduling routine maintenance sessions. Set aside time each season to declutter, reorganize, and refresh your pantry and kitchen cabinets to ensure they remain tidy and efficient year-round.
By following these seasonal pantry and kitchen organization tips, you can create a well-organized and functional space that supports your cooking and meal preparation needs throughout the year.
