Does the thought of Tax Time get you Anxious?
Tax season—two little words that can stir up stress and a last-minute scramble for receipts. But what if I told you that preparing for taxes doesn’t have to be a dreaded chore? Think of it as a seasonal reset, much like refreshing your home for Spring. By getting ahead of the paperwork now, you’ll not only avoid tax-time headaches but also set yourself up for smoother financial organization year-round. Let’s break it down into simple, stress-free steps so you can tackle tax prep with confidence and maybe even—dare I say—enjoy the process just a little!
“Oh Happy Days”. Tax prep time is here! (OH NO 🤪 Ugh.) As a Owner of a Home Based Business(s)it is a real “pain”. If you also have a business you and I understand each other and how complicated tax time can be. Trying to keep all those papers documents etc. in an orderly fashion, yeah right!
Just like organizing your home, setting up a designated space for tax documents can work wonders. A simple file box, a digital folder, or even a stylish binder can keep everything in one place.
Wherever That May Be: If you have a dedicated office, that’s great! There are so many beautiful and functional desks, chairs, and storage solutions out there—just like mine! But if you’re working from a kitchen table, a cozy nook, or a small corner in your living room, find a setup that works for your space and budget. A well-organize workspace can make tax prep (and everyday tasks) feel so much easier.
Been There. Last year, I found myself scrambling at the last minute and had to get QuickBooks. Thankfully, I already had experience with it, so there was no learning curve—but let me tell you, I had no clue what a 1099 even was! Thankfully, QuickBooks was a lifesaver, and their support team was super helpful. If you’re self-employed or dealing with contractors, I highly recommend getting ahead of it now.
If there’s one thing I don’t skimp on, it’s my tax advisor. The monthly fee is absolutely worth it for peace of mind, knowing I’m not missing deductions or making costly mistakes. If you’ve been on the fence about hiring one, consider it an investment in your sanity!
This is the perfect time to review your budget, cancel unnecessary subscriptions, and tidy up accounts—think of it as a financial version of spring cleaning.
Whether it’s home office expenses, business costs, or charitable donations, small details can add up to big savings. Keeping track throughout the year makes tax time much smoother.
Set aside time each month to update records. Future-you will be so grateful when April rolls around.
I think it’s a good thing that tax preparation time comes during the winter, it’s snowing out the wind is blowing and snow is drifting. Not much else you can do, so I’ll grab a cuppa coffee and do a little bit of organizing and filing. Come and join me….

Organization is KEY, but things seem to happen all year and all that organization goes out the window. I know it does for me and then the stress levels go up. Boring! But once it’s done it’s so gratifying, don’t you think? So it’s back to Organization 101, what could I do better and what do I need to get rid of that is keeping me from being organized. First of all Supplies (Office, Desk, Filing) are a MUST!

To work on organizing my receipts for tax time, I make a trip to get supplies needed– to accomplish the task at hand.
Whether you have a full home office or just a cozy corner, having the right setup can make all the difference. A sturdy desk, a comfortable chair, and good lighting are key, but don’t forget the small things—like a filing system for receipts, a planner for deadlines, and a desktop organizer to keep things neat. I’ve put together a free Office Setup Supply Checklistto help you create a workspace that keeps you productive (and maybe even makes tax prep a little less painful!).”
I Set up a filing system (in a used file cabinet from Marketplace- it was a still for $20). For the to day Business stuff, so that I can be mobile (Office/Couch/Chair) 🤣, I started using the “coolest” mobile filing cabinet.

When you have to ORGANIZE why not do it in STYLE. This Tote sorts your documents easily.
Yes, I use it all the time when I go from room to room or if I’m going to an appointment. It comes in handy I always get asked about it and compliments.
I do keep a Excel spreadsheet and eventually will probably use software program like Quick Books.

I always feel that keeping organized and a filing system etc. has to be a system that you are comfortable with. That is not to say that the first time you try it it is a successful system.
The object is to try, find something you’re comfortable with and to be DILIGENT. Now on to the others.
"It's income tax time again, Americans: time to gather up those receipts, get out those tax forms, sharpen up that pencil, and stab yourself in the aorta."
Dave Barry
Taxes may never be the highlight of your year, but a little preparation now can save you time, money, and stress down the road. Just like organizing a cluttered space, having a clear tax prep system can bring a sense of relief and control. And once it’s done? Treat yourself—you’ve earned it! Maybe a cozy cup of tea, a new home decor project, or just the peace of mind knowing your finances are in order. Here’s to making tax season feel just a little easier!
When you begin to organize and get a plan in action, also, don’t look at what you did not accomplish. Look at what you did. One step at a time.
