Drapes

Your best choice to balance the room is to choose a lighter drapery, if possible. A lighter drapery and a neutral color will balance all of your Décor items in a room. You can get really beautiful and simple sheer drapery on any budget.

Drapery at the proper height is an important factor, the proper height, well give any room a finished look. It will also make the room seem larger.  Try it…

This allows fullness of the fabric.

Again this is another area where you can show your personality, think outside the box.

Lighting

Lighting such the tone for a room – and by extension how are you feel when you enter any room in your home. If you have overly harsh lighting, then look at rethinking how you are lighting your home. By adding lamps, a various sizes two different parts of your space, you can help to create a soft glow that puts your body and mind at ease. Look for “warm lightbulbs” to create a cozy energy. You might also consider adding fairy lights on your landing or stairway to make this space more inviting

How we see a room yes dependent upon the amount of lighting. It is a key element. You do not have to have two matching lamps or however many lamps you have in a room, chose ones that you like and compliment that room.

Note:

Choosing the proper lightbulbs also has an effect on the ambience of that room.

Going to stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s is a good idea for their displays of lightbulbs. It will show you how bright or how dim they are.

Are you trying to achieve daylight or mood lighting.

Mirrors

A common question I get asked is, why do I need a mirror in a room? The short answer is, it is a statement piece.

A mirror can create a feeling of spaciousness. Where are you place it is a important part of how the room will appear. It is a reflection and we want that reflection to show the beauty of the room.

Mirrors will also add depth to any size room. If your space is on the Small it will give the illusion of a larger space. Have fun when choosing your frame, there are so many choices out there. Be Creative.

The cost can range from very affordable to quite costly.

Don’t be afraid to look on Facebook marketplace, there are many great deals to be had.

Refresh Your Living Room

Refreshing your living room can create a cozy and inviting space for you and your family to enjoy. Start by rearranging your furniture to improve the flow and make the room feel more open. Start by adding comfortable seating like the sofas at Shawcross. Consider updating your sofa with a comfortable, plush option that invites you to relax and unwind. Adding a few throw pillows and a soft blanket can instantly make your sofa even more welcoming. Introduce a new area rug to define the space and add warmth underfoot. Update your lighting with a mix of floor lamps and table lamps to create a layered, ambient glow. Incorporate some greenery with potted plants or fresh flowers to bring a touch of nature indoors. Personalize your space with family photos, artwork, and decorative items that reflect your style. Finally, organize your shelves and coffee table with a few carefully chosen accessories to keep the space looking tidy and stylish. With these simple changes, your living room will become a refreshed, comfortable haven for everyone to enjoy.

Gallery Wall Art
WALMART arts

This is a misleading term; today it is not only about art but Baskets, hats and even plates. The possibilities are endless for your room. Another great idea is to use family photos in black and white. It is a great conversation piece for family and friends who visit.

Decorating A Wall Quick Tips:

Again, less is best here as well. Let’s recap the things that we have spoken about above.

Here is what your wall will have.

  • Mirror
  • Shelf (if you have one)
  • Wall Art
  • Baskets
  • Plates
  • Framed Quotes or just a Word

If you are more of a minimalist, you can choose to use in one large statement piece (Large Art work, maybe with a light above it).

It is your room, and definately your Personality.  It is not necessary to have all of these elements on your wall.

Decorative Throw Pillows
Pillows

These to me are a game changer. Assorted decorative throw pillows are one of the simplest ways to add color and decorate a room on a budget. These are also seasonal, stylish and there are so many choices. As an example, see below:

Purchasing a New Pillows: Average cost $20-$50 per Pillow (ouch)

Pillow Cover: Best places for shopping, I find are at, Amazon, Target, Walmart and even Etsy. You can pick up covers in the price range of $15-$20. Most times the Shipping is Free.

Baskets

Here’s another area that I just can’t seem to get enough of and mainly because Baskets are so affordable.
They are easy to store and are lightweight. Some are even good for DIY simple projects. NEW LIFE…..

Keeping a room clean and organized, baskets are your answer.

NOTE:  Be careful of what you put in it that  you don’t end up like me . . . I can’t remember what I put in there. So to help with that you can add Tags. There are so many choices for labels and tags in the stores or online.

Another great storage idea for baskets would be your throw pillows and/or extra throws.  Theses are two things you can never have enough of. Let’s talk about children’s toys, that is another alternative to keeping a tidy space. I have picked up many beautiful and inexpensive baskets at Walmart. IKEA is another inexpensive alternative.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money and shopping for these baskets is always …… FUN!

Bedroom Sanctuary

Refreshing your bedroom can transform it into a serene and inviting haven. Start by decluttering and organizing your space to create a clean and peaceful environment. Swap out heavy winter bedding for lighter, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen in soft, calming colors. Adding a few decorative pillows or a cozy throw can instantly elevate the look of your bed. Consider rearranging your furniture to improve the flow and make the room feel more spacious. Introducing some greenery with a few potted plants can add a touch of nature and help purify the air. Update your lighting by adding a bedside lamp with a warm, soft glow, perfect for reading or winding down at the end of the day. Personalize your space with a few pieces of artwork or photographs that bring you joy. Finally, incorporate a pleasant scent with candles or essential oil diffusers to create a calming atmosphere. With these simple changes, your bedroom can become a restful sanctuary that you look forward to retreating to each night.

Get Personal
Modern Personal Style Living Room

Incorporating personal items into your decor can make your home feel truly special. Imagine a cozy reading nook with hand-signed books displayed on the shelves, each one holding a cherished memory. Monogrammed linens add a touch of elegance and personalization to your bedroom or dining area. Heirloom pieces of antique furniture can bring a sense of history and warmth to your space, connecting you to your family’s past. These unique touches create a home that’s not just stylish, but also filled with heart and soul.

Personal items help to make a room feel comfortable and definitely show your personality. Mixing Personal as well as new decor gifts the room character. It is also a conversation starter. Depending upon what you put in the room. Think old mixed in with new decor instantly gives you a timeless well designed look.

Outdoor Living Space

Refreshing your outdoor space can breathe new life into your home and create a welcoming retreat for relaxation and entertainment. Start by giving everything a good clean – sweep the patio, trim the bushes, and wash down your outdoor furniture. Adding a pop of color with some potted plants or hanging baskets can make a big difference. Consider updating your outdoor furniture with some new cushions or throws in bright, cheerful patterns. String lights or lanterns can create a cozy atmosphere for those warm summer evenings. Don’t forget the little details like a new doormat or some decorative garden stakes to add personality. If you have the space, think about setting up a small garden area with herbs or flowers that you love. Finally, create different zones for lounging, dining, and playing to make the most of your outdoor area. With a few simple updates, your outdoor space can become an extension of your home that you and your family will enjoy all season long.

Conclusion

Refreshing your home doesn’t have to be a daunting or expensive task. With a few thoughtful updates and personal touches, you can create a space that feels both new and uniquely yours. Whether it’s adding comfortable sofas to your living room, incorporating hand-signed books and heirloom furniture, or simply rearranging what you already have, small changes can make a big impact. Remember, the goal is to make your home a reflection of your personality and a place where you and your loved ones feel comfortable and happy. Take it one step at a time, enjoy the process, and soon you’ll have a refreshed home that you can truly be proud of. Here’s to creating a space filled with warmth, comfort, and endless memories. Happy decorating!
