Room Design Worthy Tips

Who has not visited Pinterest or Instagram and had Room Envy. I know I do it every day. LOL. It’s not that I’m dissatisfied with what I have, I believe it’s just the fact sometimes someone else’s ideas give you one of those “a-ha moments“.
I’m going to share with you 4 simple tips to help you achieve your own “Room Awesomeness”.

 4 BASIC STEPS

Inspiration

In past posts I have talked about this very subject. I have said how important it is to start with an inspiration piece.
Ideas of what an inspiration piece is…. Well, believe me it could be almost anything! It may be, a piece of furniture, a fabric swatch, an object, a throw pillow, a rug.

Or even a picture of entire room from Pinterest, Instagram or your favorite Blogger. Look for inspiration pieces that help define both your color and style preferences. Your sources are limitless.

This is my current inspiration for my Bedroom Refresh. Does this mean that I’ll have a Chandelier (wishing I could)  and everything else exactly like this photo? No! It just means that the picture represents the look and feel of the space I want to create: elegant but comfortable , sophisticated but warm , a haven for the maven. LOL!
Having this Inspiration Vision gives me a clear roadmap of what needs to be accomplished. Taking my time to plan, exercise and execute.

Style & Mood

If you know your style, then your already off to a good start. If you don’t it’s still okay to decorate. As long as you know how you want the room to feel when you’re done, you’ll be okay!

Determine the Mood or Feel that you want the room to display.
To do this, I write down adjectives that describe how I want the room to feel and I keep this list close by as I shop so that I can look at the items I want to purchase against my list. What do I want the space to feel like? ? Elegant? Relaxed? Cozy?

Sometimes, knowing what you don‘t want is just as important as what you do, so make a list of these as well. You can call it your a Pro’s and Con’s. For me I find, it’s often easier to determine what I don‘t want first.

I have always contemplated a wood ceiling.  I first dealt into learning about how to possibly DIY the ceiling in my bedroom. The issues that I faced were time, materials, and cost. I am not a very patient person. I try to be, but I’m not. Sadly I have to admit.

Giving it due diligence. I contacted contractors to get bids on installing a wood ceiling. After careful consideration, I realize I could not afford this at this time, but it was on the back burner for possibly in the near future, or in the future. Here I have included  Information, if  you decide you don’t want to learn how to install wood ceiling planks, this will then discount a strong ‘natural wood’ theme, or only allow it to be used as highlights. Once you make this list, your list of what you do want will begin to take shape.

Shopping

This is the best part of putting a room together. Who doesn’t like to shop?
Looking for items that achieve both Function & Feel….You should have a good idea as to the basics that need to be used. Now that you know what your desired feel is going to be, you can begin to determine the shape, color, materials, etc. to accomplish your look. Shop with your plan in mind.
For example, do you want the room to be calming? Look for neutral or subdued colors, soft lines and quiet patterns and perhaps, darker metal finishes.
Trying to create an energetic room? Look for bold colors and patterns, unexpected designs.

Special Note:

Never limit yourself to specific styles, like Traditional, Contemporary, Country, Eclectic, etc. While these styles are a great starting point and can definitely point you in the right direction, they don’t work for everyone.

Don’t be discouraged if you can’t figure out your one style. I have several that I like and incorporate into my room designs.
At the risk of repeating myself, “Style is personal, so make it your own”. As long as you know what you do like and what you don’t, a decorating style should always reflect your individual taste.
This is your space in your home, so let it reflect YOU “There is no such a thing as WRONG! That being said, as long as you like it, it’s RIGHT for you”!

“So, there you have it! Designing a killer room isn’t just about making it look good. It’s about making it work for you, setting the vibe with paint, lighting, and cool ceilings, and aiming for that ‘wow’ factor. And when you’re out shopping for stuff, keep your eyes peeled for unique finds that won’t break the bank. Remember, creating a space that screams ‘you’ is what it’s all about. So, go on, mix things up, and make that room shine!”  You GOT THIS,  My Friend!
